Why Yoga Teachers Need More Support

328

There are a huge number of ways that the 220-hour yoga teacher training I offer is different to others that you will find in the field. A big one is support.

In a survey of over 9000 yoga teachers carried out by Yoga Alliance in the UK this year, that was focused on yoga teacher development needs, 88% of teachers showed an interest in mentoring. This comes as no surprise to me. Yoga teachers need more support. Many trainings take a stack ‘em high sell ‘em cheap approach which, upon completion, leave the individual teacher somewhat in the wilderness.

To teach yoga is a rewarding vocation, a joy, but tricky to navigate elegantly, even when one has years of experience. It’s not easy, a landscape rife with boundary violations, difficult decisions to be made and an unrelenting need to keep up with the demands of both promoting yourself and showing up for your clients.

Mentoring, which has its place, is not my way. I aim to train Kundalini Global yoga teachers who are open-minded and can think for themselves. What I do offer, though, is both supervision and practical support. We meet regularly, as a community, for group supervision.

Led by me, these sessions offer enormous support for graduates having a space to discuss what they are struggling with as they begin, or continue, to teach.

Finding Success

Graduates from the Kundalini Global training can also expect to be listed on our website and social media channels, on an ongoing basis, and at no cost.

Graduates are given text to use on their websites and marketing channels to support them in getting set up to teach.

Kundalini Global Trainees are given guidance on and beyond the training on how to successfully teach independently and to market themselves with integrity.

They are also guided through what to expect when teaching for a studio.

This is missing from many a training syllabus and I believe it is important. To train is an investment in yourself, yes, but for many it is a first step to a new career. It is important to me that those who train to teach Kundalini Global have every opportunity possible to feel empowered to set themselves up for success in this regard.
