Anxiety is a form of addiction. Is that a controversial statement? I don’t think so. It’s about what you do, how you think, feel, and behave in response to triggers and to the world…

MAP is an excellent week. Running 7-13 November this year. It is both online and in person. You can pick and choose if you join me via Zoom or in the room in Battersea London.

Read a lot more on my website via the link in my bio.

What if you could learn to bear how you feel? To

What if you could learn to bear how you feel?

To notice anxiety without spiralling into it.

To experience an uncomfortable emotion without immediately needing to escape.

To change your relationship with yourself.

I got clean and sober when I was 31.

But it wasn’t until I was 45 that I really began to understand how anxious I was.

I had stopped acting out. No more drugs, no more alcohol, no more of the extraordinary chaos that had been my life.

But I had simply found another way to manage how awful I felt.

I was acting in.

Anxiety. Obsessive thinking. Compulsion. The relentless need to control and protect myself from a world I did not trust.

I was sober, yes. But I had not yet found deep recovery.

And this is something I find fascinating about addiction. We tend to focus on the thing we are addicted to, rather than asking why we need it in the first place.

What are we trying so desperately not to feel?

What if we could begin to understand the roots of our thinking, feeling and behaviours, rather than endlessly finding new ways to escape them?

And what if, from there, we could actually change?

This is what I offer on my training.

Mastering the Addictive Personality: The Path Out of Hell is seven consecutive days of exploring addiction, anxiety, shame, trauma and compulsion.

Together, we will look at what drives your patterns, learn tools to change how you feel and, importantly, you will design YOUR own recovery programme.

Not somebody else’s idea of recovery. Yours.

You do not need to identify as an addict to come. You may simply be tired of living in the relentless noise of your own thinking.

And perhaps ready to discover who you might become without it.

7th–13th November 2026
In person in London or live online.

If you are a yoga teacher, therapist, facilitator

If you are a yoga teacher, therapist, facilitator or practitioner who wants to work in prisons, rehabilitation, recovery or other trauma-informed settings, understanding addiction matters.

Not just the behaviour but also the shame underneath it.

The anxiety.
The compulsions.
The safety mechanisms.

The ways a person learns to regulate, escape, numb and cope.

Mastering the Addictive Personality is not only for people who identify as addicts.

It is also for people who want to work more intelligently, compassionately and effectively with those who do.

If you want your teaching to go deeper than technique, this week is for you.

7–13 November

I am long term sober from drugs, alcohol and gambling.

My experience is that the path I walk is often in need of an upgrade.

An upgrade in how you meet anxiety.
Compulsion.
Addiction.
Shame.
The patterns you keep finding yourself inside.

Mastering the Addictive Personality is a week of looking beyond an ability to managing the problem, towards what becomes possible when you begin to understand yourself differently.

7–13 November.

If you are ready for more than coping, come and join me. It is both online and in person in London. Up to you. Do a mix! A fabulous group forms for this each time. It is glorious.

What if your life could be so much bigger than you

What if your life could be so much bigger than you currently believe is possible?

I talk a lot about shame. Anxiety. Addiction. Trauma. The patterns we repeat, the behaviours we cling to, the stories we tell ourselves about who we are and what we can expect from life.

And i do not negate the importance of these things. Not for a moment.

But I don’t do what I do simply to help people understand why they suffer.

I do what I do because of who we might become when we l no longer organise ourselves around our suffering.

It can be so easy to hold on to the victim position. To see ourselves through the lens of what happened to us. To allow our past to dictate the possibilities of our future.

And I am not suggesting that what happened to you doesn’t matter.

But what if it doesn’t have to define the size of your life?

My life is gigantic. Not because it has been easy, or because I haven’t suffered, but because I choose to see possibility. I choose to participate in my life.

And this is really what my work is about.

Not just understanding the addictive personality, the anxious mind or the shame we carry, but exploring the extraordinary possibility of being human.

Who might you become if you stopped believing that this is all there is?

My seven-day training, Mastering Addiction: The Path Out of Hell, is an invitation to explore exactly this.

7th–l-13th November 2026. In person in Battersea, London, or online.

You do not need to identify as an addict to come. You simply need to be curious about what might be possible.

Full details at carolyncowan.com, or via the link in my bio.

Beautiful Person,

Shame is rarely as obvious as we imagine it to be.
It can become the voice that tells you not to want too much. Not to be difficult and keep everyone happy. Get it right. Do it now. It is not safe to rest.

It can become perfectionism, pleasing, performing, disappearing.

And eventually, you may not experience any of this as shame at all as you just think: this is who I am.

For six Wednesday evenings, I am teaching Beyond Shame. It is an exploration through Kundalini Global yoga, breathwork and conversation of the ways shame becomes held in the body, the nervous system, our relationships and, particularly, in our ideas about what we deserve.

We will practise something different.

You do not need to be good at yoga. You do not need any previous experience. You certainly do not need to arrive as a better, calmer or more sorted-out version of yourself.

Come exactly as you are.

BEYOND SHAME
6 Wednesday evenings
14, 21 & 28 October
4, 11 & 18 November
18:30–20:00 UK time

Perhaps it is time to find out what becomes possible when shame is no longer making every decision.
