Breathing for Pregnancy: How to Find Calm Through The Four Trimesters will be published by Vermilion, an imprint of Penguin Random House, on 16th November this year. A gentle, supportive, and extremely unique book that I am very proud to be sharing.
As the name suggests, the aim is to support women during the pregnant and postnatal period. It has a strong focus on guiding the reader to states of calm and relaxation for themselves and, from there, their baby (partner, other children, too).
Breathing for Pregnancy is full of breaths, in written and illustrated form, and I have been sure, knowing how popular my music recommendations are, for the written instructions to include tracks and albums that aid in taking yourself to altered states.
Whilst it is a work of nonfiction, each chapter of the book opens with a story that unfolds over the course of a pregnancy, where I, accompanied by a stressed out and phone-addicted, pregnant woman, take a somewhat poetic and, I hope, quite moving journey together as she walks the path into and beyond birth. It is a wonderful book to gift to someone in your life who is pregnant, who plans to be, or who has recently given birth.
Pre-Natal Writing
When considering the possibility of parenthood, trying to conceive, and during the prenatal period, from conception to birth, the benefits of breathwork and stretching are plentiful. Here, in articles exploring common themes of the period before birth, I share information and advice in areas where many feel they would like guidance and support.
Post – Natal Writing
The postnatal period is often defined as the first 40 days following birth. I would work with it as the first two years, as a minimum, both as a breathwork and yoga teacher, and as a therapist. There is much to consider, reflect upon, and work with, in this transitional period of life. Here, I share information and ideas that may help.
